Montessori Math Materials Workshop

Join us on Nov 6th for our education workshop about Math materials in the world of Montessori! This is an opportunity for parents and guardians to learn more about what Montessori math looks like, and you'll have an opportunity to get your hands on the materials and practice yourself!

All in an effort to help you feel more connected to your child's math work in their classroom!

Montessori Materials offer a unique hands-on way for students to learn Math. Numbers are an abstract concept. A Montessori Math environment first offers a foundation with a concrete beginning, which grounds students in the hands-on relationship with math materials. These materials ultimately lead to more abstract concepts like algebra and geometry.  In Children's House, students are given the chance to touch it, hold it in their hands, consider its physical shape, weight and measurements. When the time comes for them to progress to elementary, the abstract therum lives in their subconscious from the physical relationship they've already established with it, and they gain a seamless understanding of the lesson more quickly because the foundation has been laid.

Additionally, the math materials are multi-functional, buildable and meet students where they are academically. For example, the bead chains in every Children's House and Elementary classroom begin with students counting linearly. Then they learn to skip count, and then they realize if they fold the bead chains, they make a square. Then they eventually transition to learning fractions, which is the foundation for algebra, and so on. Hands-on Montessori Math materials often make math more approachable for students who fear it. It offers a more visual and connected experience with mathematical concepts, and there are several ways to teach one concept in different ways for different learners.

This workshop will teach basic Montessori Math concepts, and give parents and guardians an opportunity to understand and practice Montessori Math.

Committing to understand how Montessori classrooms work is an important part of being in a Montessori school community. We invite you to partner with us, and hope you can make it on Nov 6th!
