What is the most inspiring thing about working at Compass, with students and/or in Montessori?

I am energized by creating an inclusive, public Montessori community for our students, staff, and families. I am proud of the individualized approach we take to understanding children's strengths and needs.

What is your favorite lesson in Montessori?

I love our elementary economic geography Montessori lessons "interdependence of human beings in society." This sequence of work was one of my favorites to teach during my time in upper elementary. It inspires awareness of and dialogue around the interrelationships of people and roles in our society and fosters an appreciation for everyone's contributions to creating community.

How were you introduced to the world of Montessori?

A longtime family friend introduced me to Compass, and Montessori, when I was feeling disenchanted with public education after my first year of teaching at another school in the Denver area. Attending elementary Montessori training completely reinvigorated my passion for teaching young people and I believe truly helped me see math instruction, in particular, in a totally new light.

Fun fact - If we held a staff talent show, I'd wow everyone with my talent doing.....fill in the blank!

In my high school years, I played guitar in a few bands! I'd need to brush up before another talent show, though!!!
