What is the most inspiring thing about working at Compass, with students and/or in Montessori?

Working along side students and helping them become confident, enthusiastic, and self-directed learners.  Through the use of a carefully prepared environment students develop a deep sense of concentration and a curiosity about the world. As I guide, I gain a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for other adults who are passionate about Montessori education and how what we are doing here at Compass is transformative in education.

What is your favorite lesson in Montessori?

I love the Montessori math materials because they offer an opportunity for students to learn key aspects of math through repetition and practice. I also the love farm as the foundation of learning for the younger adolescent. They learn responsibility and experience how their actions have real life outcomes.

How were you introduced to the world of Montessori?

My daughter was in Cornerstone Montessori and my wife Katy and I knew we wanted to continue this form of education for her and our son. We knew we couldn't continue to afford private Montessori educations so we explored starting a public Montessori charter school. So we made sure that happened with the help of so many other amazing people.

Fun fact - If we held a staff talent show, I'd wow everyone with my talent doing.....fill in the blank!

I'm not ready to WOW anyone else but I have recently been inspired by Tate Casson to continue learning more card tricks.

List one passion you have outside of work

I love working with my hands. I have rebuilt a lake house in Wisconsin. I am eager to continue building an outdoor shower, hot tub area, and outside kitchenette.  I think I would like to offer my talents to help others in need of help. Elderly or single parents who need things repaired but can't afford it.
