What is the most inspiring thing about working at Compass, with students and/or in Montessori?

The community that the students create with their peers and guides. Compass kids are comfortable talking with adults, and are exceptional at creating belonging amongst themselves.

What is your favorite lesson in Montessori?

I love all the math materials in Elementary. Breaking down math into concrete steps is so important for students learning about place value and quantity. Plus, they were my favorite materials as a Montessori student!

How were you introduced to the world of Montessori?

I was a Montessori student from 18 months through 18 years at several different Montessori schools, including Compass. After a brief career in Higher Education, I chose to come back to Compass as a guide to give back to the community that gave me so much.

Fun fact - If we held a staff talent show, I'd wow everyone with my talent doing.....fill in the blank!

Slam poetry. I won the Compass Spectrum talent show in 2015 with performances of "Totally Like, Whatever, You Know" and "What Teachers Make" by Taylor Mali. Look up him performing those on YouTube - amazing pieces of work!
